I am a qualified counsellor working with adults and young people (from age 16).
I trained as an integrative humanist counsellor (qualifying with a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling). This integrative approach enables me to draw on several counselling theories which means that I am able to respond flexibly to each of my client’s specific situation and needs.
My work as a counsellor has been with students in a local college, adults in a Community Counselling Service and both young people and adults in my private practice.
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I adhere to their code of ethics and am bound by their complaints procedures. I am also fully insured and advanced DBS checked.
Any therapist working within the ethical frameworks of the BACP also has a professional obligation to maintain an ongoing programme of professional development. This includes consultation on a regular basis with an experienced practitioner to ensure that the highest ethical standards are maintained. I also undertake regular ongoing training to ensure my skills and knowledge remain up to date.
In the past, I have enjoyed careers in both business and secondary school teaching. During this time I gained extensive experience of coaching and mentoring people from a diverse range of backgrounds. I currently work (part-time) as a Specialist Mentor (Mental Health) at Kent University.
